California Required Victim Leave Notice

Effective: July 1, 2025
California recently expanded its victim protection leave law and added a new notice requirement for employers of all sizes. Although the requirement took effect on July 1, 2025, employers were not required to comply until the California Civil Rights Department (CRD) released its model notice, which is now available.
Employers must provide this notice:
To new employees at hire
To all employees annually
Any time upon request
Any time an employee informs the employer that they or their family member is a victim
Employers that choose to create their own notice instead of using the model version must ensure it meets all legal requirements. The CRD has also published general FAQs on the state’s victim protection leave law for additional guidance.
