Minnesota Paid Family Leave Antiretaliation & Notice Requirements

Effective: November 1, 2025

Effective November 1, 2025, employers covered by Minnesota’s Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) law must:

  • Post a workplace notice explaining PFML benefits and protections.

  • Provide written information to employees about the program.

  • Comply with antiretaliation provisions, which prohibit adverse action against employees who take or request leave under the law.


Employees will be required to give at least 30 days’ advance notice for foreseeable leave, or as soon as practicable for unforeseeable leave.


Other Key PFML Dates:

  • Quarterly wage detail reporting began October 31, 2024.

  • Access to leave benefits and requirements for employee/employer contributions and pay statement details begin January 1, 2026.

  • Covered employers must make premium contribution deposits to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) by April 30, 2026, for wages earned January–March 2026.
