Colorado Expands FAMLI Leave for NICU Care

Effective: January 1, 2026

Beginning January 1, 2026, eligible employees may receive additional paid family and medical leave under Colorado's FAMLI program if their child is receiving care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).


  • This is in addition to the standard 12 weeks of FAMLI leave.

  • The added leave applies only in documented NICU care situations.

  • Employers should plan ahead to update FAMLI policies and leave tracking systems in 2026 to account for this extended leave scenario.
