Effective: January 1st, 2025

Colorado has granted protection to minors against antidiscrimination and antiretaliation. Effective January 1st, 2025, minors that file a complaint or start any proceeding that related to wage and hour laws are protected from discrimination or retaliation from their employer. This means employers cannot take disciplinary action against minor employees for exercising their rights to file a wage or hour complaint or engage in any related legal proceeding.

In addition to this, employers cannot retaliate against minor employees who exercise their rights under the Colorado Youth Employment Opportunity Act (CYEAOA). This act, originally passed in 1971, established Colorado requirements for permissible working hours, minimum age requirements for occupations, and other requirements related to minor employees.
