Illinois Requires Paid Lactation Breaks

Effective: January 1, 2026
Effective January 1, 2026, Illinois will amend the Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act to require covered employers to compensate employees at their regular rate of compensation during lactation or breastfeeding breaks. Employers may not require employees to use paid leave or reduce their compensation during these break times.
