Effective: July 1, 2025
Starting July 1, 2025, Indiana employers are prohibited from taking adverse employment action against employees who miss work to attend:
A school attendance conference, or
An individualized education plan (IEP) meeting for their child.
This protection is established under Indiana S.B. 409 , adding Burns Ind. Code Ann. Ch. 22-2-20.
Action Item for Employers:
Update attendance and time-off policies to reflect this new protection.
Train managers and supervisors to ensure they do not take adverse action against employees using time off for these school-related purposes.
