Effective: January 1, 2026
The IRS has released the standard mileage rates effective January 1, 2026, reflecting updated cost data and inflation adjustments.
2026 Standard Mileage Rates
Business: 72.5 cents per mile (up 2.5 cents from 2025)
Medical: 20.5 cents per mile (down 0.5 cents from 2025)
Moving: 20.5 cents per mile (for certain active-duty military members and certain members of the intelligence community)
Charitable: 14 cents per mile (unchanged; set by statute)
The rates apply to electric, hybrid, gasoline, and diesel vehicles.
Use of the standard mileage rate is optional. Taxpayers may instead choose to track and deduct actual vehicle expenses, subject to IRS rules.
