Maine Requires Coverage of Nonprescription Contraception

Effective: January 1, 2026
Effective January 1, 2026, Maine employers that issue or renew a group health plan must ensure the plan provides coverage for nonprescription oral hormonal contraceptives and nonprescription emergency contraception. Previously, coverage was required only for prescription contraception.
Affected employers should review their health plans with their broker and ensure compliance.
