Nebraska Eliminates Safety Committee Requirement and Consultation Program

Effective Date: July 17, 2026
Nebraska is removing certain workplace safety requirements for private employers.
Beginning July 17, 2026, employers are no longer required to maintain a workplace safety committee, and the state’s Workplace Safety Consultation Program will be discontinued.
What This Means
Private employers are no longer required to have a formal safety committee
The state will no longer offer its Workplace Safety Consultation Program
The program previously provided voluntary inspections and compliance guidance related to OSHA and MSHA standards
Why It Matters
While these requirements are being eliminated at the state level, federal workplace safety standards still apply. Employers remain responsible for maintaining safe workplaces and complying with OSHA regulations.
What Employers Should Do
Evaluate whether to continue internal safety committees as a best practice
Ensure ongoing compliance with federal OSHA requirements
Consider alternative methods for monitoring and improving workplace safety
Document safety practices and training efforts
