New York Secure Choice Registration Deadline for Mid-Sized Employers

Deadline: May 15, 2026
New York employers with 15 to 29 employees must register for the state’s Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program by May 15, 2026.
This follows the March 18, 2026 deadline for employers with 30 or more employees and precedes the July 15, 2026 deadline for smaller employers with 10-14 employees, as part of the state’s phased rollout.
What This Means
Employers with 15 to 29 employees are required to register by the May 15 deadline
The program facilitates employee contributions through payroll deductions
Employers are responsible for registration and administration, not funding the plan
Why It Matters
New York is continuing to expand its retirement savings mandate across employer size groups. Employers who do not comply may face penalties or additional enforcement actions.
What Employers Should Do
Confirm employee headcount to determine applicability
Complete registration for the Secure Choice program by May 15
Coordinate with payroll providers to implement deductions
Communicate with employees about participation and options
