REMINDER - Colorado Job Application Fairness Act 2024 - HR ALERTS

Colorado Job Application Fairness Act 2024

Hands holding job applications surrounded by office supplies
Effective: July 1st, 2024

As a reminder, Colorado passed the Job Application Fairness Act back in 2023. Effective July 1st, 2024, the act went into effect.

Under this act, employers cannot ask or require applicants to provide their age, birthday, school attendance dates, or graduation dates on an initial job application.

Employers can ask applicants to verify their compliance with age requirements that are imposed by law or other bona fide occupational qualification  related to public or occupational safety. This does NOT mean employers can ask for age, they can simply ask if the applicant meets the requirement.

Employers also can ask for application materials such as certifications and transcripts, but they must notify the applicant of their right to remove information that would identify age, birthday, or school-related dates.
