Tennessee Consumer Data Privacy Law Takes Effect July 1, 2025

Effective: July 1, 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, the Tennessee Information Protection Act (TIPA) grants privacy rights to Tennessee consumers regarding their personal data and establishes specific compliance obligations for covered businesses.

Important Note for Employers:

The TIPA does not apply to individuals acting in an employment context or to employment-related data. This means employee data is not covered under this law.

This law applies primarily to consumer-facing operations, similar to privacy laws enacted in other states like California and Virginia.
