Arizona Expands Military Leave Protections

Effective Date: September 12, 2026
Arizona has expanded the state's military leave law by broadening the reasons employees may take protected military leave.
Beginning September 12, 2026, military leave may be used for military training, replacing the previous, more limited list of qualifying activities such as camps, maneuvers, formations, and armory drills.
Why This Matters
Employers should review military leave policies and manager training to ensure leave requests for military training are handled consistently and in compliance with the updated law.
Recommended Next Steps
Review military leave policies and employee handbooks.
Update leave administration procedures, if necessary.
Train supervisors on the expanded qualifying reasons for military leave.
