California Expands Health Insurance Coverage for Infertility and IVF

Effective: July 1, 2025
Effective July 1, 2025, California has amended its health insurance requirements to expand reproductive health coverage under employer group health plans.
Starting with any group health plan issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2025, employers must ensure the plan provides:
Coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, including:
Up to three completed oocyte (egg) retrievals, and
Unlimited embryo transfers.
Previously, California law excluded in vitro fertilization (IVF) coverage, but this amendment now brings IVF procedures into required coverage.
Action Steps:
Work with your Vida HR-HR Business Partner (HRBP) to review your health plan offerings and confirm alignment with the updated requirements for California employees.
Coordinate with your broker or carrier to ensure your plan documents reflect the expanded infertility and IVF coverage.
Communicate any plan updates to affected employees as part of benefits education and open enrollment materials.
