Idaho Expands Medical Autonomy Protections for Employees

Effective: July 1, 2025
The Idaho Medical Freedom Act (MFA) takes effect on July 1, 2025, significantly expanding prior state law to restrict employer authority over employee medical decisions.
Originally enacted as the Coronavirus Stop Act in 2023—which barred COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the workplace—the newly amended MFA now prohibits employers from requiring any medical intervention as a condition of employment.
Under the law, “medical intervention” is broadly defined to include any procedure, treatment, or action related to an individual's physical or mental health.
This change may impact workplace policies related to vaccinations, medical testing, or other health requirements. Employers with operations in Idaho should review current practices and consult with their HRBP to determine if updates are necessary.
Further site updates and guidance will be provided as more information becomes available.
