Vermont Requires Pay Ranges in Job Postings Starting July 1, 2025

Effective: July 1, 2025
Vermont has enacted H.B. 704, which requires employers to include pay ranges in job postings.
Beginning July 1, 2025, employers with five or more employees must include the compensation range in any written job advertisement for:
A position physically located in Vermont, or
A remote position primarily serving a Vermont-based office or work location
The law aims to promote pay transparency and address wage disparities in the hiring process.
What Must Be Included:
A good faith pay range, which reflects what the employer reasonably expects to offer for the position at the time of posting
Note for Employers:
The requirement applies regardless of whether the position is fully remote, as long as the work supports a Vermont office. Verbal recruiting efforts (e.g., direct outreach without a written posting) are not covered by the law.
